Abstract

A writing system is a major component of human culture. Birth of letters gave rise to writing systems. Subsequently the writing system becomes the basis of an information society. Therefore the seeds of the presently developing information society are symbols evolved as characters. This paper discusses historical development of characters as a proper writing system in Sri Lanka, based on different conceptual and objective viewpoints.
